Cornerstone Baptist Church
Vision, Mission & Core Values

Our Vision

Cornerstone Baptist Church is a Disciple-Making Church.

Our Mission

"Cornerstone’s purpose is to build Christ-centered lives, equip disciples, and love others."

A “cornerstone” is the first building block laid in the foundation of any structure. It is the anchor by which everything else is plumbed, squared and leveled. The Bible uses this imagery to refer to Jesus Christ, the Foundation and Anchor of our faith (Eph. 2:20, 1 Pet. 2:6, 7). Acknowledging that Jesus Christ is our Chief Cornerstone, we therefore purpose to…

Build Christ-centered lives
Building a life with Christ at the center begins with trusting Jesus as Savior (Rom. 10:9, 10), but it doesn’t end there. We must also endeavor to make Him the Lord of every aspect of our lives – our homes, relationships, jobs, even our free-time activities – not so that we might earn our way into heaven, but as a grateful response to having already received the free gift of eternal life (Luke 6:46-49). This is a process that takes a lifetime, but those who commit to the journey, the Bible refers to as disciples.

Equip disciples
Becoming a disciple is just the first step in a Christ-centered life; Becoming an equipped disciple takes everything to the next level. Being equipped involves a regular diet of God’s Word to reorient our thinking (1 Pet. 2:2, 2 Tim. 3:16, 17), it involves discovering how God has uniquely shaped us to be a part of His divine plan (1 Cor. 12:4-7, 11), it involves discipline and training in order to grow in godliness (1 Tim. 4:7-8), and sometimes it involves sacrifice and even suffering (Mark 8:34-38; 1 Pet. 3:13-17). This might sound daunting, but it will all be worth it when we stand before our Lord and Savior and hear, “Well done, My good and faithful servant.” (Matt. 25:14-23)

Love others
Jesus said that His disciples would be known by the love they demonstrated (John 13:35). In fact, without love all our efforts to build Christ-centered lives and equip ourselves would be in vain (1 Cor. 13:1-3). The first and best way that we love others is by sharing with them the love of Christ (2 Cor. 5:14-20); But we must also demonstrate our love by ministering to those in need (1 John 3:17-18), strengthening the weak and warning the unruly (1 Thes. 5:14), and in all ways making our “rights” subordinate to the needs of others and the commands of Christ (1 Cor. 9:19-22).

We are committed to developing every member as a minister. We believe that the primary responsibility of the pastor(s) is to equip the saints for works of service and then release them to that service. Responsibilities for service will be placed in the hands of the membership as they are equipped and entrusted with the ministry.

4. A commitment to the development of dynamic Christian living and ministry. – 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 1 Cor. 2:4; 2 Tim. 1:7; Jn. 14:13-14; Eph. 3:20; 1 Jn. 5:14-15.
Operative words: Word, Spirit, Prayer
We are committed to the reality of victorious living in daily life. This is the way God planned it (2 Pet. 1:3-4). Our resources are the Word, the Spirit and prayer (Eph. 6:10-18). The combination of these three empower the Christian (Eph. 1:19) for a dynamic life and ministry and provide daily victory over the world the flesh and the Devil. Therefore we communicate and demonstrate a dependence upon the Word, the Spirit and prayer in our daily lives and in the conception, planning and execution of the ministries of this church.

5. A commitment to the development of creativity and innovation in ministry. – 1 Cor. 9:19-22.
Operative words: Biblical, Relevant
We are committed to relevant ministry based upon the eternal Word which communicates a timeless message to contemporary needs. We recognize that the message never changes but the methods must continually change to meet the needs of a changing society. We will endeavor to reach our generation by encouraging the use of creative and innovative methods in all areas of ministry.

6. A commitment to the development of excellence in ministry. – 1 Cor. 10:31; Col. 3:17.
Operative words: Honor, Testimony
We are committed to offering our best to God in our service to him. We believe that everything that is done should bring honor to God's name and be a testimony of his grace to the unchurched community.
